The First Easter Egg Hunt

Last Saturday we decided we ought to take the boys to an Easter Egg hunt. Syracuse City puts on a big one at a local park. We of course were running late so the sirens went off just as we were running to the 0 to 2 year old section. We chucked the boys into the maddness that was 200 toddlers trying to figure out why they were there and what they were doing. The boys picked up a few eggs then decided it was more fun to try to open them instead of getting any more. Anyway, I think we had fun. Here are the pictures.

Fun in the Sun

We've had a crazy week and our lucky readers get to hear all about it. Some of this is for journaling purposes so please bare with the long post.

It started with a visit from Grandpa Davis. It was great to have Brent here for a visit and the boys loved playing and wrestling with him. The "Double Brother Tickle" was a hit.

A day after Grandpa's departure we were off for sunny San Diego CA. As eluded too in my previous post from the hotel lobby, we left very early and made a few extra stops. Just a shout out to GPS systems. They rock! Esp when you have two wiggly boys in the backseat who need a 20 min break at a park. No problem with the GPS, parks are easy to find!

Within an hour of arriving, we were at La Jolla Beach and loving it. The boys loved playing in the sand and chasing seagulls. Penn was all about the ocean, true to form Logan was more cautious. Fun to build "sand castles" with dad. Much more fun to destroy them...Penn just had to eat the sand. Once it was in his mouth he hated it ... Once we cleaned his mouth out he'd forget that little detail and more sand would go in. Crazy boy!

For those of you wondering, we were able to get Logan home without a sunburn. Half a can of sunscreen and his camo hat did the trick. That's saying something consider just how fair he is. We also had the opportunity to visit the San Diego Zoo. We loved it. The CA Condors and rattle snakes were a hit with the boys. The Polar Bear exhibit was also very cool. One of the bears went swimming. He did the back stroke as well as flips. Spencer and I really enjoyed it, it just looked like he was having a great time. Telling Dad all about the flamingo's.

It's very important to stay hydrated on those hot California days!

By the end of the day the boys here pooped. Forget them, I was exhausted. The zoo is situated on a large mountain. Carrying extra baby weight and pushing a stroller up and down all the hills, made for a good day. We found a nice, dark, cool viewing area in the otter park and relaxed for a bit. During our stay we were able to attend a sacrament meeting and visit the San Diego Temple. It was beautiful. They had missionaries there to show us pics of the inside. We'd like to go back sometime and see it for ourselves.Spencer's company had done some impressive work on a bridge in the area and of course he wanted to check out. Only with an engineer as a husband do we visit bridges on vacation. I guess everything they did was under ground so the pic doesn't do it justice. San Diego was a wonderful place to visit and we'll most definitely go back. It was an average of 77 degrees while we were there. As I'm writing this it's snowing out my window! Spencer has been working crazy long hours at work so to have a few days all to our selves was truly priceless. The only draw back to San Diego ... it's 650 miles away!

Prince Charming

I recently celebrated my birthday. I love my birthday, I honestly feel it should be a national holiday. No one should have to go to work, it really is the best day of the entire year. This year as always I looked forward to it but... with some dread. It was one of those "milestone" birthdays. But my husband totally came through and rocked it despite my apprehension.

He made my cake and dinner. We're talking Red Velvet Cake practically made from scratch with the most delightful cream cheese/whipped topping frosting. He also made dinner for all of our guests. Not just any dinner but Sweet and Sour Meatballs. They were delicious! He even cleaned up. We may not have a fairy tale life but Spencer most definitely has a whole lot of Prince Charming going on. Sorry ladies he's taken but he does have a single brother...

Young Love

I've recently been going through some old boxes with a few old memories and lots of old junk. While asking myself "Why did I keep this?" I stumbled across these pictures and laughed right out loud. Let me introduce my first boyfriends. That's right plural, Troy and Doug.

I think it was the 2nd grade. Being the decisive girl I was wasn't, I couldn't make up my mind between the two. As a result a wooing war began. Both parties presented gifts, no doubt things chosen from older sisters jewelery box, poetry was written and a playground scuffle occurred. All for what? I'm not sure, I'm pretty sure we didn't hold hands or anything. In the end my Mom made me return the jewelery and break up with Troy (shown with me at the Hogle Zoo, my first date). O well it was probably for the best, did you see those shorts?

Secrets

It may shock some of you to learn I don't bathe my boys every day. It's a tremendous amount of effort and preparation esp when I'm by myself and lets be honest they don't get that dirty in a day. That may all change in the summer when we play outside more, but right now that isn't the case. It's not like they don't get baths it just every other day or every third day. So now you know my secret ... I have to ask myself why I intentionally complicate my life. It seems the last little bit I bathe the boys in the afternoon and then feed them pasta that evening. As a result no matter how much I scrub they end up with an orange glow.

This is after pasta, they are cleaning their trays with damp paper towels. At least those come clean without 2 baths in one day.

Now that you know one of my secrets I might as well tell you another. I sneak vegetables into my pasta. It's sneaky and maybe a little underhanded but it works. Onions and peppers are good but I've gotten even sneakier. Carrots have been known to appear in the sauce, but it gets worst I'm contemplating other veggies. Maybe some zucchini...
So there you have it. Two of my best kept secrets. I already feel better having shared.
