Our Trip Part 1

Last week we were blessed with the opportunity to take the boys to Pennsylvania to visit the family and meet Great Grandma Peterson for the first time. It was an awesome trip. Grandma and Grandpa Davis went out of their way to make sure everyone was comfortable and taken care of. Between their Grandparents and Aunt Jenny the boys were spoiled. Here are a few highlights.

When Brent and Ellen found out the boys enjoyed the Salt Lake Aquarium they suggested we visit the Baltimore National Aquarium. It was AMAZING! They had so many types of fish and the shark tank was impressive. I don't think I've seen a larger tortoise, we even got to see a 3 toed baby sloth.
The Aquarium doesn't allow you to take the stroller in, however they lend you baby backpacks so it all works out. We don't think Logan blinked the entire 2 hours we were there! He just soaked it all in. Penn fell asleep for 30 mins but the rest of it he was wide awake.

These jaws were ginormous! The picture was back lite so I played with it a little. This aquarium gets 6 stars out of 5. I highly recommend it to anyone who may find themselves in the area. Plus the Baltimore Harbor is fun to see.

Our Trip Part 2

What's a trip to PA without a stop at Hershey? Spencer had been looking forward to showing the boys the wonder of Chocolate World, how could I resist - chocolate was involved! The boys loved the ride. Penn kept trying to climb out of the car to get a closer look, or maybe a taste! After the ride we got Hershey shakes and of course everyone wanted to share. I think the boys tried chocolate, vanilla and strawberry ice cream that day. No word yet on what was favorite. I'd imagine the boys thought all three were favorite.
With the Hershey chocolate song playing in the heads the boys drifted to sleep. "Hershey Chocolate, Hershey Chocolate. Real Milk Chocolate ..." Making the ride home blissfully quiet.

9 Months

The boys are 9 and a half months and I'm just getting around to blogging about their 9 month Dr. appointment. I'm of the thought that "better late then never" works.

Logan
Weighing in at 22 lbs this boy is a great cuddlier. Some may call him a mama or dada boy but he is just very cautious of people outside his circle of trust. Logan is an excellent observer and often picks up on things quickly. For example he has been combing his own hair with the brush for months now. Logan is in the 75th percentile for his height and 70th percentile for his weight. He enjoys reading a great deal and even turns the pages for you. According to Logan, Penn is the funniest guy in the family. Logan often laughs with Penn for no apparent reason. Logan enjoys balancing things on his head.
Dads genes certainly ended up in Logan as he often seems to be examining how things work and are put together. He and his Dad are deep thinkers. We love Logan a great deal and feel blessed to have him as a part of our family.

Penn
"On the move" doesn't even begin to describe this boy. From rolling to scooting to full blown crawling Penn is an adventurous explorer. If there is an electrical cord he will find it (much to his parents dismay). Penn weighs 20 lbs and is also in the 75th percentile for height however is only in the 50th percentile for his weight. Despite his weight he packs a punch and enjoys wrestling. He wrestles with Logan as well as Mom and Dad. And if no one feels like wrestling he'll just attack your leg and draw you in. Penn is quick to smile and often his laugh starts deep in his belly. In many ways he is laid back just like his Dad. Mom loves that Penn is a great sleeper.

Penn enjoys spending time with Mom folding laundry, although he spends more time unfolding then folding. Penn is a problem solver. No matter the barrier or obstacle course we set up, Penn has little problem finding his way around or through. We love Penn and find him to be a happy baby. He is a wonderful addition to the Family Davis.
This video was taken 2 weeks ago, Penn is a much better and faster crawler now. Again you'll have to tilt your head a little.

Moments

There are moments in life when all is right with the world. When your not worried about the dishes or the fact you haven't mowed the lawn in over a week or even the mortgage. I experienced one such moment yesterday morning. The boys and I had just gotten back from our morning jog and I was doing the dishes as the boys were quietly playing in the front room. When I hear one of my favorite sounds, giggling. I peek around the corner to find that Penn has knocked Logan over and is on top of him wrestling. Penn is even pretending to eat Logan's "baby back ribs". Logan thinks it's the funniest thing in the world and is laughing right along with Penn. I'm so grateful for these little buddies.

Conversely, sometimes we have moments in life when we are frightened so much everything becomes surprisingly clear and the adrenaline gets pumping. As I was basking in yesterdays high their morning nap ended and I hear Logan crying for me to come and get him. I walked in the nursery to find Penn is not in his crib! Somehow he got out of his crib (that's a long fall for one so little) and is sleeping on the floor curled up in a ball with his binki in his mouth. We've never even seen him pull himself up to a stand. I have no idea how he managed to get out. Penn is fine, there isn't a bump or bruise on him. He just scared his mom, who made his dad lower the mattress the second he got home.

Yesterday was full of moments I'm sure I'll remember for a very long time. As a side note the dishes got done, the lawn is mowed and the mortgage is paid ... but I don't think I'll remember those moments.

Brothers

Logan and Penn may not look that much a like but they are brothers. They do so much together. People often ask how they interact. The last few days we've chronicled a few examples.

New Jobs

Spencer and I recently got new jobs. Spencer moonlights as a barber now. The boys received their first haircut this week, and traumatic doesn't even begin to describe it. These were the best pictures we could get.


I got a new job as a Betty. That's right Betty Crocker. My sister Monica did a very dangerous thing and gave my husband homemade strawberry freezer jam. He convinced me to give it a shot. I've never done anything like that before but why not? 30 jars later I'd say I make a pretty good Betty.
Just a few problems. Where are we going to put all of these jars? We don't have a deep freeze. Plus Spencer is the only one that likes strawberry jam, these jars aren't going anywhere fast.

Good Taste

So the other day Mary Elizabeth, the boys, and I were out running some errands.  The boys were starting to get alittle cranky and we had one more stop.  We didn't want to pack up the boys again so I decided to run in and leave the rest of the family in the car.  The boys were whinny so I thought some oldies might sooth their nerves.  I flipped on the radio just in time for some Pink Floyd.  The boys stopped whinning immediatley and listened intently.  After I got back "All Along the Watchtower", a personal favorite, came on and the boys started to sing along.  Ok, mabye they weren't singing along, but they were making happy noises.  I am happy to see that at least the boys have picked up my good taste in music.
